Davey Set For New Deal

Barnsley Chairman Gordon Shepherd has revealed they are set to hold talks with manager Simon Davey about a new contract.

When Davey took over permanently in January he was given a deal until the end of the current season. But a fantastic start which has seen The Reds lose just two of their opening ten games and currently occupy a play-off spot has forced Shepherd to try and tie his boss down.

Shepherd told the Yorkshire Post:

"We are only 10 games into the season but Simon is doing an excellent job and we think it is both expedient and sensible to start talking now,"

"We have had preliminary talks and the relationship is absolutely first class."

Lets hope these talks go a lot better than the last time the board sat down to contract talks with the manager.

Back in November 2006 Andy Ritchie was all set to sign a new deal before he was sacked just weeks later!
