Double Success For Reds.

Barnsley fielded two separate sides in pre-season friendlies yesterday and emerged victorious in both.

The stronger looking eleven took to the field at the New York Stadium to face Rotherham United and after an uneventful first half the game sprung into life after the break with five goals being scored.

A wonderful Jacob Mellis free kick put Barnsley in front straight after the restart and he then doubled the lead 10 minutes later. The Reds looked to be coasting to a thumping victory when Chris Dagnall made it 3-0 on 67 minutes but Rotherham showed they could be a force to be reckoned with in League One this season following their promotion in May by pulling it back to 3-2 thanks to a brace from Kieran Agard on 75 and 77 minutes.

There were 3,687 supporters at the game with, incredibly, 1,252 coming from Barnsley which forced Rotherham to open up more seating before the game.

Reds line-up:

Steele, Cranie, M'voto, Nyatanga Kennedy, Mellis, Dawson, Perkins, Golbourne, Dagnall, O'Grady. Subs: Dibble, Patterson, Oates.

Meanwhile just over half an hour up the road another Barnsley side were playing at non-league Frickley.

It was still a very experienced outfit which suggests The Reds have a strong first eleven and back-up for the 2013-2014 season.

Two goals from Jason Scotland won the game for Barnsley.

Reds Line-Up: Alnwick, Wiseman, Hassell, McNulty, Noble-Lazarus, O'Brien, Cywka, Clark, Jennings, Cofie, Scotland.
