Barnsley owner Peter Doyle has hit out at the creation of AFC Barnsley, and has hinted that the publicity given to the new club could force potential investors to walk away from Oakwell.
Doyle told the official website: "The clear links with our club’s current position cannot be understated. We are striving and working tirelessly to secure the long term future of Barnsley Football Club and the creation of alternative clubs such as this one is far from helpful".
"There is a huge chunk of investment out there which is close to becoming our’s. Clearly investors are nervous when it comes to football and news that disenchanted so-called supporters have formed an alternative club does nothing to allay their misgivings."
