England U21's Hammer Israel At Oakwell!

England’s stars of the future romped to a comfortably friendly win over Israel
under the bright lights of Oakwell last night.

Stuart Pearce’s men who started their Euro 2013 qualifying campaign with a
6-0 hammering of Azerbaijan last week saw off the young Israelis 4-1-
meaning they have actually won more games at Oakwell this season than
the stadium’s residents Barnsley who have lost three out of three.

The Under 21’s did fall behind thanks to a fine effort from Mohammad Kilbat
but the young Lions roared back with second half strikes from Watford’s Marvin
Sordell, Hull City’s new recruit from Leicester Martyn Waghorn, Aston Villa’s
Nathan Delfouneso  with a penalty and Arsenal’s Henri Lansbury who has just
joined  West Ham on loan.

It also keeps up Pearce’s unbeaten record at Oakwell having come here as a
player with Newcastle in 1997 (2-2 draw) and with Manchester City in 2001
when the former full back scored in a 3-0 win for the Blues. He also appeared in
the Newcastle sides that defeated Barnsley 3-1 in the FA Cup and 2-1 in the
Premier League in 1998, and the City side that thumped The Reds 5-1 in front
of the SKY cameras in April 2002- a win which sealed City’s return to the Premier
League and virtually condemned Barnsley to relegation to the Second Division.
