FA Cup Third Round

Barnsley will head for familiar territory after being handed an FA Cup Third Round tie at fellow Championship Strugglers Southend United.

The Reds will head to Roots Hall on either 6/7 of January 2007.

Barnsley faced teams in their own league in the FA Cup twice last season. Beating Bradford City 5-3 in a replay in the Second Round before losing 2-0 at Walsall in as replay in the Third Round.

As a Championship side The Reds and Southend avoided having to enter the first two rounds.

Barnsley only defeated Southend 2-0 in the league last Tuesday courtesy of strikes from Brian Howard and Kyel Reid.

And in last season's Roots Hall meeting the sides drew 1-1 after Marc Richards cancelled out a Shaun Goater penalty. Thus The Reds are unbeaten in 7 meetings between the two sides.

Barnsley and Southend have met each other twice before in the FA Cup way back in 1938 also in the Third Round

The first meeting at Roots Hall ended 2-2 with The Reds winning the replay 2-1 at Oakwell.

Simon Davey spoke of the draw with www.barnsleyfc.co.uk saying:

"An away trip in the FA Cup anywhere is always going to be difficult especially when it is against a team in the same league.

"It is a winnable game for us because we are going to a team that we know a lot about and we are used to playing against but it will be a difficult one".
