Interesting Stats:

This will be the first ever meeting between Fleetwood and Barnsley.

The Cod Army reformed in 1997 after going out of business in 1976. They were promoted into the Football League for the first time in 2012 and after just two seasons in League Two they were promoted to League One in the summer.

Fleetwood made a solid start to their first season in English football’s third tier, winning each of their first three matches and drawing two.

However they have gone on to lose three in a row in all competitions since then with back to back league defeats, both by 1-0 scorelines.

If Fleetwood do not score on Wednesday it will be the first time they have gone three games without a goal since March.

Should they lose tonight it will be the first time they have suffered three successive league defeats since April 2013.

Graham Alexander’s side have gone three home matches without a win for the first time since that same month. No win against Barnsley would make it four for the first time since February 2013.

Any Barnsley fans worried by the five-goal capitulation to MK Dons at the weekend should take heart from the fact that when The Reds were last promoted from this division back in 2005-2006, they had one point LESS at this stage as they do now.

Back then they were unbeaten at home but had lost all three away matches, compared with this season where they remain unbeaten on the road but have lost two of their three games at Oakwell.

Barnsley are looking to extend their best away run from the start of the season since 2011-2012. Avoid defeat in their first ever visit to Fleetwood’s Highbury Stadium and they will have avoided defeat in all their first four away matches. In 2011-2012, they went unbeaten in the first five.

The Reds are looking to go unbeaten away from home for four successive matches for the first time since they did not lose any of their final four of the 2012-2013 season.

After last night’s games Barnsley dropped to 17th in the League One table, but victory tonight will see them jump eight places to ninth (leapfrogging Fleetwood who currently reside there) and they will be just two points off the play-off places.

Conor Hourihane is looking to score for the fifth league game in a row. His brace in the defeat to MK Dons at the weekend saw him become the first Reds player to score in four successive league matches since Ricardo Vaz Te in 2011.
