Simon Davey gave starts to new signings Marciano Bruma, Andy Johnson and Rob Kozluk whilst springing a major surprise with the inclusion of winger Rohan Ricketts who is now on trial after his release from Wolves.
The Reds fell behind just 7 minutes in at Christie Park as Morcambe who won promotion into League Two via the Conference Play-Offs last season took the lead through Wayne Curtis.
A long ball from David McNiven cauight out the Barnsley defence and Curtis finished past Nick Colgan.
It took until the 63rd minute for The Reds to level and it was a first goal from £200,000 purchase Kayode Odejayi who had come on at halftime for Istvan Ferenczi.
A great ball from Ricketts fed fellow substitue Dominik Werling whose great cross was headed home six yards out by Odejayi
Parity was restored for just 12 minutes though as a great strike from Jon Newby flew past Kyle Letheren and clipped the post on its way in.
