Rimmington was a stalwart at the Tykes, having joined as a player in 1945 and still worked as the laundry man into his 90s
His other roles included kitman, head coach, physio, assistant manager and groundsman.
A club statement read: "Barnsley Football Club is truly devastated today to announce that Norman Rimmington has passed away at the age of 93.
"'Rimmo' was a true club legend and a man who represented the club with the utmost pride and dedication throughout his life
Born in Staincross, Barnsley, Norman was a fearless goalkeeper and first signed professional terms with the club in 1945
He then went on to work for the club in various other roles throughout his life.
"Barnsley Football Club ran through Norman's veins and he embodied everything good about our town and our people.
"Through his commitment and service to the club over the decades Norman became affectionately known to the fans as 'Mr Barnsley' - a fitting tribute to a man who devoted his life to the club.
"Norman will be deeply missed by everyone here at Barnsley Football Club and we would like to send our sincere condolences to his family at this sad time."
Born in the Staincross area of the town, Rimmington, who previously worked as a miner, played 29 times for Barnsley and retired aged 29 after three years at Hartlepool United before returning to Oakwell to coach the reserves.
