Former Barnsley captain Stephen Foster is reportedly on the verge of signing for League One side Tranmere Rovers.

32-year-old Foster was told he wouldn't be offered a new deal by David Flitcroft last week along with Matty Done, John Rooney, Rob Edwards and Marlon Harewood.

"Fozzie" as he is known by, looks set to return to Merseyside, close to his Warrington home and his former club Crewe Alexandra. He made 244 appearances in seven years at Oakwell.

Meanwhile, todays Daily Mirror is reporting that the Reds are interested in re-signing former striker Danny Haynes.

Still only 25, Haynes has been released by Charlton Athletic after two years at the Valley. He netted six times in 32 league appearances for the Reds but left soon after Keith Hill took charge. Burnley, Derby and Huddersfield Town are all reportedly tracking Haynes.
