Four New Trialists In At Oakwell

Barnsley boss Keith Hill will run the rule over four more trialists this week as he looks to continue strengthening his squad for the 2012-2013 season.

But one player who will not be making a permanent move is former Monaco midfielder Malaury Martin. The 23 year old who played eight times during a four year stint with the French giants, and has had a taste of English football with both Blackpool and Middlesbrough (where he scored on his debut) has spent the last week on trial with The Reds, alongside an unnamed Greek player, and impressed in the club’s friendly games with Rotherham, Stocksbridge Park Steels and West Brom but Hill has decided against signing him after failing to agree terms.

Hill told the Sheffield Star:

"We were poles apart unfortunately when it came to signing Malaury. He’s gone back to France, but I was reasonably happy with him.

“I’d have liked to have kept him because he’s got good pedigree, but there was a certain element of risk - and that risk was too big in the end.

“The Greek player came highly recommended but he needed a lot of work doing with him and, although we need players for the future, we also need players for the here and now.

“I’ve got four trialists in this week so it will be good to have a look at them."
