The second round of the Johnstones Paint Trophy may hold bad memories for Barnsley and for Kane Hemmings but the striker who missed his penalty in The Reds shootout defeat to Oldham last night has been rewarded for his stunning goal in the first round triumph over York City.

The 23 year old summer signing from Cowdenbeath netted his first and so far only goal for the Oakwell outfit when he hit a 30 yard pile driver to seal a 2-0 victory over the Minstermen.

The strike, back on the 2nd September has won Hemmings the Johnstones Paint Trophy Ultimate Finish award after it was voted the goal of the round by 25% of voters.

Hemmings has received the Ultimate Finish trophy, while his goal will also feature in the Johnstones Paint Trophy Ultimate Finish of the Season competition, which will showcase the best goals in the competition throughout the campaign.

He told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:

“There were some fantastic strikes scored in the first round of the Johnstones Paint Trophy so to come out on top of an award voted for by supporters was a very pleasing.

"It was a good team move before I received the ball and then the space opened up. I decided to try my luck and was delighted to strike it as well as I did.

“It was great to get the goal but it was even more important that the team got the right result."
