Hill Rejects Reds..... For Now

Rochdale manager Keith Hill has dismissed reports linking him with the vacant manager’s position at Barnsley has “mere speculation”

The 42 year old who guided Rochdale to their first promotion in 41 years in 2009-2010, before finishing just three points off the League One play-offs this season has been linked with the jobs at Oakwell and their South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United and was given permission by the Dale board to speak to Barnsley yesterday. Hill though has now come out to distance himself from talk of a move, claiming it is hindering his work in the transfer market.

He told the Manchester Evening News:

"I've spoken to a number of players we're interested in but several of them are asking 'will you be there?'. They are interested in playing for myself and David Flitcroft and want to know if they sign will we be staying.

"It doesn't help with so much speculation flying around. As I told them, it's mere speculation - we've had it before with the Crystal Palace job - and we will be here at the start of the season."
