Hope Followed By Dispair

Chris Shuker is believed to be just days away from signing a new contract for The Reds but Shootout hero Nick Colgan could have played his last game for the club.

On Shuker Andy Ritchie told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:

"We have had more positive discussions with Chris and it looks as though he will be staying.

"It looks as though it will definitely be sorted next week and I am happy that Chris will stay with us. It makes things a bit easier so we will be able to have a closer look at what we need to do.

"Hopefully we will be able to sort out a few players".

There wasn't such positive news on Colgan however as Ritchie told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:

"I will have to speak with the chairman on Monday but it does not look very positive.

"Nick is considering things but I do no think he will sign".

Colgan was named Player of the Year last season after keeping 20 clean sheets, and saved the decisive spot kick from Alan Tate that sent Barnsley into the Championship.

But now it looks like he could be joining Stephen McPhail through the exit door.

With only Michael Coulson from Scarborough on the arrival front Ritchie has got a lot of work to do to make sure The Reds can compete with the likes of Birmingham, Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday next season!
