Howard: "Double my money or let me go!"

Barnsley captain Brian Howard is likely to have upset the Reds faithful by making a double my money or let me go ultimatum to Simon Davey and Patrick Cryne.

Howard has just 1 year left on his current contract and claims that the club is yet to approach him over a new deal; despite the fact the £3m rated midfielder could leave for nothing next summer.

Premier League clubs such as Bolton, Wigan and Middlesbrough are believed to be tracking Howard and would have no qualms about doubling his £4,000 a week wages.

Howard told the Barnsley Chronicle:

"Although Barnsley insist they want to keep me, nobody at the club has been in touch with me yet to offer me a new contract.

"I feel like I am in limbo. I feel like I have given great service to this club, and I would like them to recognise that by doing one of two things - either give me the contract I am worth or sell me. And by that, I mean doing me the courtesy of selling me at a realistic price"

That last comment is believed to be aimed at Cryne's comments that Howard could be worth £10m if the price tags of other Championship midfielders was to be believed.

Indeed Howard has given great service in his three years at Oakwell but it would be nice for Howard to remember that Andy Ritchie lifted him off the football scrapheap at Swindon, then put up with him breaking his foot weeks after signing and that the club has turned him into a Premier League class midfielder!

One player who cannot wait to get out of Oakwell is Danish striker Kim Christensen.

Christensen spectacularly fell out of favour last season under Davey and made just 13 substitute appearances- the last of which coming in December. He did score the last gasp equaliser at Charlton in October but in talking to a Danish journalist he described moving to Barnsley as the "biggest mistake of my career!"

And finally there will be no deals for either Alan O'Brien or Robert Snodgrass. O'Brien was considered last summer whilst there is no interest in Snodgrass.
