Barnsley captain Brian Howard has been rewarded for a fine individual season at the Oakwell by being named in the PFA Championship Team of The Year.

Howard notched 14 goals from the centre of midfield, including the 93rd minute winner at Anfield that knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup. He also scored crucial goals that helped preserve The Reds Championship status.

Howard is the only player, playing for a club outside the top half to be included in the Team.

PFA Championship Team of the Year:

Wayne Hennessy (Wolves), Bradley Orr (Bristol City), Ryan Shawcross (Stoke), Dan Shittu (Watford), Paul Robinson (West Brom), Brian Howard (Barnsley), Marvin Elliott (Bristol City), Liam Lawrence (Stoke), Jonathan Greening (West Brom), Ricardo Fuller (Stoke), Kevin Phillips (West Brom).

Meanwhile Charlton manager Alan Pardew has bizarrely hit out at Marciano Van Homoet after his side's 3-0 defeat at Oakwell on Saturday.

In a collision that seemed to show Charlton midfielder Luke Varney injuring himself when going low into the back of Van Homoet, Pardew claimed the incident was different.

"We had to play with ten men for the last ten minutes or so and Varney was away with the fairies. I thought it was more an assault than a tackle and the ironic thing is he stayed on the pitch and set up the third goal.

"I was surprised they got a free-kick [after the incident], but the referee surprised me all day actually. Varney's got sore ribs, a sore groin, bellyache, headache, nose-ache, ear-ache and toe-ache from that tackle - so he should be OK for Monday!

A touch of the "sore loser" there Alan??
