Barnsley captain Brian Howard has today insisted he is happy to remain at the club despite strong speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League.

The 25 year old who has plundered 14 goals this season was the only player from a club outside the Championship top half to be named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year.

With clubs such as Everton, Fulham and Aston Villa on his tail it is widely thought his three year association with The Reds could be over, but he told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:

"I'm happy at Barnsley. I like it there. I'm under contract for another year and I enjoying my football there.

"Obviously it's been a great season and I'm happy to stay there.

"I'm club captain, which I enjoy a lot and am privileged to have, and I'm enjoying my football and we'll see what happens.

"I've got a year left on my deal, but hopefully the club will come and we'll talk soon."

Reds boss Simon Davey has also reiterated his desire to keep the top players such as Howard at the club. Speaking to the Daily Mail he said:

"Financially, it would have crippled us to go down and perhaps now we can keep our better players. It's crucial for a club like ours to stay in this division. We've got good players and good players want to play at the highest level.

"It's important to keep all of them, not just Brian (Howard)".
