Reds striker Iain Hume is on the verge of a move to Championship rivals Preston North End on a three-month loan deal with a view to a permanent move.

Hume was left out of the squad last night as the Reds trounced rivals Leeds United 5-2 and is set for a move to Deepdale in the next couple of days.

Preston currently lie 23rd in the Championship after a 2-1 reverse against Nottingham Forest last night with ex-Red Jon Parkin getting their goal.

He joined Barnsley from Leicester in June 2008 and has made 55 apperances for the Reds, netting nine goals but has struggled since his career and indeed life-threatening injury suffered in the game with Sheffield United in November of 2008.

PNE boss Darren Ferguson told media:

"I'm going to sign Iain Hume, subject to a medical, on Friday in a 93-day loan deal with a view to a permanent deal,"

"He's got experience in the league, he can score goals in this league."

Ferguson added: "He can play right wing, left wing and up front. He's a good player."
