Former Tottenham midfielder Emil Hallfredsson is expected to sign for the Reds today.

The 25 year old, who can play either on the left or down the middle and currently plays for Italian side Reggina, will sign a season long loan deal with a view to a permanent move.

He started his career with home town club Hafnarfjordur and signed for Spurs in 2005. He left for Malmo in 2007, and then moved to Lyn Oslo before his move to Reggina.

He has been capped 22 times by Iceland, and scored once, against European champions Spain.

Reds boss Simon Davey told the Sheffield Star: "Emil has agreed to sign for the club, we've got him on a season long loan.

"He's a very talented player and has a lot of requirements we've been looking for.

"Reggina wanted a lot of money for him on a permanent contract, but we've been speaking to them for the last four or five weeks about a deal.

"He's predominantly a left-sided midfielder, but he can slot in central midfield, which is what we want. We're trying to be more effective with our signings and we wanted a player who can play in a multitude of positions."

"He was Martin Jol's first signing at Tottenham, he's an international player with plenty of pedigree.

"He's not going to be able to play at the weekend against Sheffield Wednesday because we don't have international clearance, but hopefully he'll play next week."
