Is Redders In Reds Frame.

Barnsley’s Premier League captain Neil Redfearn has emerged as the bookmakers’ favourite for the vacant Barnsley manager’s job following his sacking by Championship strugglers Rotherham today.

The Reds are looking to fill their hotseat for the 14th time in 18 years after Lee Johnson’s defection to Bristol City and today Rotherham dispensed of Redfearn after only four months in charge.

The 50 year old will always be a legend at Oakwell as he was captain when they won promotion to the top flight in 1997 scoring 19 times that season and then was the highest scoring English midfielder in the Premier League when he bagged 14 goals in Barnsley’s unsuccessful battle to stay up.

This will be the most obvious reason as to why a strong link has emerged between the two but the Dewsbury born man’s managerial record is nowhere near a patch on his career on the pitch where he scored 198 times in 981 games for Nottingham Forest, Bolton, Lincoln, Doncaster, Crystal Palace, Watford, Oldham, Barnsley, Charlton, Bradford, Wigan, Halifax, Boston, Rochdale and Scarborough.

He has been sacked from all three of his managerial roles at Halifax, Leeds and Rotherham and has a very poor record of just 31 wins from 80 games in charge.
