Barnsley have today signed giant French central defender Jean-Yves Mvoto on a two year contract.

The 24 year old stands at 6ft 4in and arrives at Oakwell after three years in League One with Oldham Athletic.

The colossal defender was reportedly set to join the Reds' local rivals Doncaster Rovers after training with them and even appearing in a pre-season friendly for Paul Dickov's side.

Mvoto started his career with Paris Saint Germain but moved to England in 2008 when he joined Sunderland for an undisclosed fee. He failed to make a single appearance for the Wearsiders during a three year stay and spent time on loan at Southend and Oldham before joining the Latics permanently in the summer of 2011.

Mvoto made 105 appearances in total for Oldham, scoring seven goals and he played a starring role in their epic FA Cup victory over Liverpool and draw with Everton last season.

He told the club’s Official Website:

“I’m very happy to be in Barnsley now. I heard about the move a couple of days ago. I had a talk with the Manager, I like his project and everything he said. I just wanted to come to Barnsley."
