Late Wood Goal Leaves Reds In Relegation Forest

A last gasp Richard Wood goal plunged Barnsley deep into the relegation mire on Tuesday night as Sheffield Wednesday leap-frogged The Reds and Southampton at the bottom.

An 83rd minute goal from Zavon Hines looked to have given Coventry victory at Hillsborough and kept the Owls in the bottom three. But Wood's 90th minute equaliser saw Southampton drop into the bottom three and Barnsley drop to fourth from bottom.

All three teams are positioned on 46 points with goal differences of, Sheffield Wednesday (-5) Barnsley (-14) Southampton (-18)

With The Reds playing in the FA Cup Semi-Finals at the weekend, Wednesday and Southampton have a real chance to drop Barnsley into the bottom three. A draw for Southampton would be enough whilst victories for both sides (Sheffield Wednesday travel to doomed Scunthorpe, whilst Southampton host league leaders Bristol City) would leave The Reds three points adrift of safety and a visit to promotion chasing Watford next up.

There may be an FA Cup Final on the horizon alongside a place in League One....
