Lewin May Remain A Ram

Lewin Nyatanga's agent has hit Barnsley's chances of signing the defender on a permanent basis after claiming that Derby boss Paul Jewell has not said that Nyatanga can leave.

When the Welsh International signed on loan at Oakwell for a third time in January, it was with the view to a permanent switch in the summer after a fee of around £300,000 was agreed. Reds boss Simon Davey has admitted there are ways out of the agreement for both sides and now Dean Sheehan of Cardiff-based company Definitive says Nyatanga is going nowhere:

"As far as we are concerned, Lewin has three years left at Derby and he will stay and fight for his place. I wouldn't be saying this if Paul Jewell had given us any indication that he didn't want Lewin to do just that.

"Lewin has just completed another full season in the Championship and the club he played for on loan is desperate to have him back. What does that tell you about his ability?"

Championship new boys Nottingham Forest are also believed to be interested but Sheehan added:

"Forest boss Colin Calderwood has not phoned me. As far as I am concerned, that is just another rumour."

Meanwhile Barnsley have lined up another pre-season friendly for this summer. They will take on Sheffield United's sister club, Chinese side Chengdu Blades at Oakwell on Saturday 2nd August 2008, kick-off 3pm.
