Reds owner Sean Lewis will stand aside if Peter Ridsdale can bring ready cash to Barnsley.

The chief executive who has been busy raising capital to take the Second Division club over admitted that if Ridsdale brought big backing: "I'm not going to say no."

"The fans deserve that much after all they've been through," he added.

Ridsdale was again a guest in the Barnsley directors' box on Saturday.

"Gudjon (Thordarson), Kenny Moyes and myself have a game plan, but at the end of the day if the money is in place I'm not going to say no," Lewis stressed.
It is understood that Ridsdale, the former Leeds United chief executive, is acting for millionaire Barnsley fan Patrick Cryne.

It is also thought that accountants acting for Cryne and Ridsdale were examining Oakwell finances last week.

Lewis acquired the club for £1 from Peter Doyle on the understanding that he would clear the club's mortgage by the beginning of December.

If Cryne settles the debt of around £5m he could effectively cut Lewis out of the picture. Doyle and Ridsdale have recently been in talks.

Meanwhile, Brian Horton has been named Nationwide Division Two manager of the month for August.
