Reds striker Jonathan Macken has become the fourth squad player to sign a new contract this summer after clinching a one-year extension.

Bobby Hassell, Luke Steele, Michael Coulson and now Macken have now pledged their immediate future the the club.

Reds manager Simon Davey said:

"Jon is an important member of our squad and has proved that with 17 goals in the last two seasons for us. I am delighted that he has committed himself to what we are trying to achieve here at Oakwell for another 12-months".

And Macken himself said:

"I am delighted really. I am very pleased and always wanted to stay at Barnsley. I told the manager that at the end of the season and all my family knew that I wanted to stay here so it is great to get it all signed.

"It was an easy decision really. I have fully enjoyed my time here. I enjoyed playing last season even though it did not work out how we all wanted and we only avoided relegation on the last day of the season. I enjoyed every game I played and I am looking forward to next season".

Both men were talking to www.barnsleyfc.co.uk.

Macken has played 75 games for the Reds netting 17 goals since joining in November 2007.
