Former Reds legend Mick McCarthy is hot favourite to replace Howard Wilkinson as Sunderland manager.
After the shock departure of Wilkinson and Steve Cotterill after just five months in charge, McCarthy could be appointed as early as tomorrow.
He is understood to want former Reds team-mate Ian Evans, his assistant when he was in charge of the Irish national team as his coach at the Stadium of Light.
