McClaren Resigns At Forest

Nottingham Forest are beginning the search for a new manager and chairman after Steve McClaren and Nigel Doughty resigned their positions today in the wake of a 3-1 home defeat to Birmingham.

Doughty will continue as the owner of the club but it is the end of the road for former England manager McClaren after less than four months in charge.

The former Middlesbrough and Wolfsburg boss had been under severe pressure after winning just two matches this season and suffering defeat to local rivals Derby and a 5-1 hammering at Burnley in midweek. The 50 year old has finally fallen on his sword after the home defeat to the Blues- a sixth reverse in seven matches- after he watched his side squander a 1-0 lead by conceding three goals in the final 15 minutes.

Rumours have since broken out that McClaren was always going to step down regardless of today’s result after becoming disillusioned with things behind the scenes at the City Ground. The resignation of Doughty offers further proof that all things are not well at a club who for the past two seasons have reached the Championship play-offs but currently sit fourth from bottom with just eight points from 10 matches- their worst start since their first season back in this division after promotion in 2008-2009.
