Egyptian striker Mido, who has made just one substitute appearance for Barnsley since his headline-grabbing arrival in the summer has been disciplined by the club after becoming involved with a protest against Israel at Westminster.

The 29 year old, who has remained sidelined with hamstring and back injuries posted on his Twitter account “In London against Israel…. Oh Lord burn them”.

The former Tottenham, Middlesbrough and West Ham striker quickly deleted the post but not before the Oakwell outfit were made aware of it. Egypt and Israel have been at war with each other on and off for the past 92 years.

A club spokesman said: “It has been investigated and Mido has been spoken to. The matter has been dealt with internally and action has been taken.”

It is unlikely Mido will be fit to reappear in Keith Hill’s squad until well into the New Year.
