Barnsley Boss Andy Ritchie is set to move for Manchester United starlet Eddie Johnson.

Sir Alex Ferguson has just released the 21-year-old after making just one appearance - against Leeds United in the League Cup in 2003-.

He has been out on loan for the past two seasons.

In 2004-2005 he spent the season at Coventry City where he scored five goals in 29 appearances, whilst he spent last season at Crewe Alexandra scoring five times in 23 games.

Crewe have also offered him a contract as both Barnsley and Crewe fight for the signatures of Johnson and Stephen Foster.

Ritchie told
www.barnsleyfc.co.uk about Johnson:

"We will be sitting down this week for talks with Eddie's agent. They are only going to be preliminary discussions so we will have to wait and see what happens".

Concerning Foster he told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk

"We have heard nothing new from Stephen and his agent yet but it is still early days.

"We have one or two other things in the pipeline at the moment and are talking to a few players but I am not going to name, names because I do not want to alert other clubs to our plans"

The club are also confident that Antony Kay will join fellow defenders Paul Reid and Bobby Hassell in signing a new contract after he arrived back at the club for talks.

Chris Shuker and Neil Austin have also contacted the club.

Finally and I thought I would bring Barnsley fans attentions to this article
