Simon Davey has had two unsuccessful bids rejected by lower league clubs today, as revealed by www.barnsleyfc.co.uk .

The first one comes from yesterday's revelation that Davey had bid £200,000 for Rotherham United midfielder Lee Williamson. Davey had intended to make Williamson his first signing as full-time manager but Millers Chairman Denis Coleman has personally rejected the offer according to BBC Radio Sheffield.

Coleman told Radio DeeDar:

"We've got other bids on the table higher than that, so why would we accept that one? We've had three official bids since yesterday morning, and a verbal bid from a fourth one.

"We've got one or two other teams who have made enquiries last week, so things are starting to happen this week, both for Lee (Williamson) and obviously there's a lot of interest in Will Hoskins as well. We've had two official bids now for Will, both in excess of £500,000, both have been turned down, and we've just got a third offer in this morning, I'll look at that later on."

The second bid to be rejected today was for Bury's former Huddersfield Town midfielder Dwayne Mattis. The bid put forward was for £25,000. Mattis has somehow played into Mr. Davey's good books but a statement from www.buryfc.co.uk read:

THE club can confirm that that a £25,000 offer from Barnsley Football Club for midfielder Dwayne Mattis has been refused.

Dwayne is also out of contract at the end of this season and is currently one of the players that we are hoping to negotiate a contract extension with.

Dwayne joined the club from Huddersfield Town in June 2004 and was voted the player of the season in his first season at the club, Mattis has played 108 games, scoring 17 goals whilst in a Shakers shirt.

Meanwhile at Oakwell, midfielder Grant McCann has made his loan move from Cheltenham Town permanent and has signed a deal until the summer of 2009. The transfer fee making the deal permanent is for £100,000. McCann has made 7 appearances for the Reds, scoring 1 goal on his debut in the home victory over Ipswich.

In the outgoing section, Leon Knight's loan deal at Oakwell has expired and he has returned to Swansea City. Good riddance some Reds fans may say. Knight made nine appearances for the Reds and failed to find the net in that time.

Also, leaving Oakwell, possibly for the last time is Scottish winger Anthony McParland. He has joined Wycombe Wanderers on loan and is poised to make the switch permanent in the week. Anthony made 8 first team appearances for the Reds and failed to score. He joined Barnsley from Celtic, where he (believe it or not) was the longest serving player.
