Barnsley have appointed Ronnie Branston as their new Academy Manager following Simon Davey's promotion to First Team Manager.

Branston has been at Oakwell for four years and Operations Manager Dave Hancock said:

"After going through a lot of applications and CVs, we have decided Ronnie is the outstanding candidate.

"He has been with Barnsley FC for about four years and he knows everything about the club, its history and, more importantly, the academy players."

Meanwhile two young Reds players are hoping to gain first team experience when the loan window opens on Thursday.

Nicky Wroe will join League Two Bury whilst Dale Tonge will join League One leaders Walsall.

Tonge will play for the Saddlers' Reserves this afternoon against Barnsley.

Goal-keeper David Lucas has also had his contract extended until the end of the season after proving his fitness.
