Summer recruit Marciano Bruma is set to make his belated Barnsley bow.

Bruma is (along with Jamal Campbell-Ryce) the only one of Simon Davey's 14 signings to yet make his Barnsley debut after breaking his hand in a training ground collision with fellow new boy Dominik Werling in pre-season.

According to Head Physio Richard Kay though Bruma could make a return next week and it could even be in the first team.

Kay told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:

"Marciano has been in full training for a while now and fitness-wise he is absolutely fine. He will see the specialist on Wednesday and with a bit of luck he will be given the all clear.

"That should be it with Marciano and then it will be up to the gaffer as to whether he goes straight into the first team squad or has to play a couple of reserve games first".

Fellow full-back Bobby Hassell will have to wait longer however to make his first appearance of the season.

Hassell, who has made 121 appearances for The Reds has struggled throughout the summer with a knee injury and according to Kay will need at least another month to recover.

"Bobby has undergone weeks of scans which have proven to be inconclusive. As a last resort we sent him for an arthroscopy last week and the surgeon did some work on his ITB Band in his left knee. He also removed a small supra patella plica from his knee joint.

"It was nothing major but it was in the area where he was complaining of some pain and hopefully this will have done the trick.

"Bobby has an appointment with the specialist again on Wednesday and hopefully he will be given permission to step up his rehab work and do some running.

"He will then have to go through a pre-season programme and get a good level of fitness. We will look to condense six weeks of fitness work into a month". Kay told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk.

Finally Academy graduate Jacob Butterfield has signed his first professional contract with Barnsley Football Club.

Jacob who made his debut as a substitute in the 2-0 Carling Cup defeat at Premiership Newcastle United has signed a three year contract at the club.

Note: New signing from Southend Jamal Campbell-Ryce has been handed the Number 20 shirt (not Grant McCann's Number 11 as reported in the Barnsley Chronicle)
