Northampton reject Reds cash for Reid

Reds boss Paul Hart may look to go Dutch after the Cobblers confirmed that they have turned down a bid from the Reds for midfielder Paul Reid.

"We have turned down a significant offer from Barnsley for Paul Reid," said Northampton Town Chairman Mr David Cardoza on the Cobblers official website.

"As we have said before, we do not need to sell any player. Paul Reid is our captain and we have no intention of losing him. As far as we are concerned, the matter is now closed."

Boss Colin Calderwood said: "We have turned the offer down because it is nowhere near the valuation of the player.

"We have told Paul so he knows all about the situation and has been informed. That's because I want to be as open as possible with all the players.

"His attitude since I spoke to him while out here in Spain hasn't changed one jot. He has a desire and ambition to play in a higher division, and he has a chance of doing that with Northampton Town.

"I stressed to him that that is exactly the same thing as I want to do, and I want to do it with Northampton Town. So he is quite happy, he appreciates that we told him and he says that all he is concentrating on playing for us."

Northampton striker Martin Smith has also been linked with the Reds but Friday's chronicle Barnsley revealed that Paul Hart had two Dutch players in mind if the Cobblers deal was rejected.
