Interesting Stats:

Victory for Barnsley today would tie the head to head meetings up at 12 wins each and 12 draws.

This is Bolton’s first trip to Oakwell in 12 years when a sole Michael Ricketts effort gave the visitors a 1-0 victory in April 2001.

Barnsley have failed to win any of the last seven meetings with Bolton. Their last victory was in an FA Cup Third Round tie in the 1997-1998 season.

It was also in that same Premier League season that The Reds secured their last league victory over Bolton. Goals from Eric Tinkler and Georgi Hristov securing a 2-1 victory- Barnsley’s first home Premier League victory- in August 1997.

There should be goals in this match. There has only ever been two goal-less draws between the two sides- once at Bolton in 1971 and once at Oakwell in 1911.

Bolton, favourites for promotion at the start of the season, have had a disappointing campaign but a recent revival has lifted Dougie Freedman’s side into the top ten.

Wanderers have won three of their last five matches and have just secured back-to-back wins for the first time this season after dispatching of Hull and Peterborough in their last two outings.

Bolton last won three league matches in a row exactly 12 months ago.

The Trotters have managed only two victories on the road this season- the lowest in the Championship. Their last one was eight away games ago when they won 2-1 at Blackburn in November.

Bolton have drawn 12 of their 34 matches this season. Only Brighton (13) have had more stalemates.

28 of Bolton’s 34 Championship matches have either been drawn, or decided by a single goal. Only Birmingham match that.

Barnsley have scored at least twice in each of their last six matches. They have not managed this feat in seven successive games for 13 years. Back in December 1999/January 2000 they managed it in seven successive games by hitting 3,3,3,2,2,2,5. Their run at the moment stands at 2,2,3,3,2,3.

Barnsley have also managed to score in each of their last 14 matches since a 1-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in December. Their best run since they also managed to net in 14 successive games in the 1996-1997 promotion season.

They have not netted in 15 consecutive games for a massive 47 years. The Reds managed to net in 16 games in a row between the 12th November 1966 and the 25th February 1967.

Barnsley have won every home game under the stewardship of David Flitcroft (four out of four) They last won five home games on the bounce in 2000.

The Reds have though netted only 16 league goals at Oakwell this season. Only Bury in the entire Football League have scored less home goals this season.
