Npower Championship Matchday Twenty-Three: Millwall v Barnsley

Last updated : 21 December 2012 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

Team News:

The Reds have suffered something of an injury crisis this week and are missing four players for the daunting trip to South London.

Jacob Mellis is out of his third successive match with the dead leg he suffered at the start of the month and has been joined on the casualty list by Akos Buzsaky, Reuben Noble-Lazarus and Emile Sinclair.

Hungarian Buzsaky is out with the hamstring injury that forced him off just two minutes into the second half of last weekend’s South Yorkshire derby, on loan Sinclair suffered what has only been described as a “contact” injury which meant he was not even in the squad for that game. Teenager Noble-Lazarus was also missing against Sheffield Wednesday with an ankle injury. None of the four have trained at all this week.

David Perkins could be in line for a recall. The 30 year old has not started a match since the 3rd November (a total of eight matches) due to hamstring trouble but made a welcome apperance from the bench against the Owls and could now start tomorrow to boost The Reds depleted midfield.

Interesting Stats:

On the 22nd September Millwall were defeated 2-1 at home by Brighton and were sat in the Championship relegation zone. 16 games and three months later they drew 2-2 with the Seagulls to cement their place in the Play-Off places.

The Lions have lost just one of those 16 games (after losing five of the first seven).

They are undefeated in their last seven matches at home, winning five, since that reverse to Gus Poyet’s side.

Hope for Barnsley comes in the form of Millwall’s goals against column. Kenny Jackett’s side have shipped 31 goals this season- the most in the division’s top nine.

They have also only netted 17 times in front of their own supporters, the lowest in the top eight.

Barnsley are now without a win in their last 11 matches, their worst run for eight years and have failed to win 14 of their last 15 matches.

If The Reds fail to beat Millwall tomorrow- the halfway point of the season- it will be their lowest half-season total for 36 years.
