It's been a good day down at Oakwell!

First of all, centre-half Lewin Nyatanga has signed a two-year contract extension. Just under a month ago, Lee Johnson offered fresh terms to the Welshman, being one of only two players he wanted to retain for the new season.

He was a near ever present for the Reds last term, turning out 51 times and scoring five goals, including two in the 3-1 win away at Johnson's former club, Oldham.

Nyatanga spoke to BBC Radio Sheffield after signing his new deal:

"The manager has big aspirations and it's fantastic to have someone leading you who has big ambitions.

"The aim has to be challenging for promotion. The league is tough but it's open."

And as expected, the Reds have also secured the signing of Inverness forward Marley Watkins on a two-year deal.

The 24-year-old joins less than a week after scoring in, and winning the Scottish Cup final with Inverness. In total last season he scored nine and made 16 assists.

He spoke to the club website after signing:

"I'm delighted," said Watkins. "I had a good, positive meeting with Lee Johnson and I was really impressed with what he had to say and where he wants to go.

"I'm excited to be a part of it."

"It was awesome to score in a final," he added. "It was a great way to end and I hold Inverness close to my heart.

"I just want to come to England and prove myself down here then aims high as possible. I want to be a success with Barnsley."
