Barnsley have received positive news today over the future of winger Jim O’Brien with his agent intimating that he will sign the two year contract he has been offered in the next few days.
The 24 year old enjoyed his best season last year since arriving at Oakwell in 2010 and Reds director Don Rowing told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"His agent has intimated that Jim has accepted our offer and he should be putting pen to paper in the next week,"
"He's been an integral part of our team for the last two years."
"Hopefully the fans will see that we've done all we can to retain his services and I can't wait to get the paperwork done now."
However Rowing revealed that the club are becoming increasingly frustrated with Jacob Butterfield and his agent with the midfielder’s future up in the air.
Butterfield, who enjoyed a sparkling first half of 2011-2012 before an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury ended his season on New Years Eve. The 21 year old is now out of contract but because of his age, the club would be entitled to a fee if he moved on. But unfortunately Barnsley do not yet know whether he will move on or will stay and they have been met with a wall of silence in trying to solve the issue.
Rowing continued:
"I'm very disappointed because we've had no communication from his agent or the player himself as to what the future holds. We've gone by the book and made our offer and we're in the dark at the moment.”
"Jacob has until around 19 June to make a decision and he has to come back at some point to let us know if he wants to stay with us or move on.”
"If no one has been in touch with him then he may well seek to stay here."
