Trialist goal-keeper David Preece has put pen to paper on a 12 month contract, with the option of a further year after impressing Reds boss Simon Davey during pre-season.

Preece, 32, has spent the last few weeks with the side and appeared in front of Barnsley fans in the 3-2 friendly win over Ferencvaros. The former Darlington stopper has now penned a permanent contract and will act as number two to Luke Steele.

Davey told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:

"David has done very well training with us and has all the attributes needed to be a quality keeper in the Championship. We are delighted to have brought him here to Oakwell.

"David has the experience and ability to provide healthy competition for Luke Steele".
