Luke Potter could come in at full-back with Bobby Hassell moving up to midfield.

Head to Head

Recent meetings between Barnsley and Manchester City does not make pretty reading for Reds fans… and that is before you take into account the players they have just signed. The last three encounters have been won by City with a goals aggregate of 15-2 in City's favour.

The last meeting was in the Carling Cup Second Round in 2004 when The Reds were still a League One side. That night, at the City of Manchester Stadium they were thumped 7-1, and a certain Jon Macken hit two of the City goals. The others coming from Joey Barton, Willo Flood, Shaun Wright-Phillips and two from Antoine Siberski. Barnsley's consolation was through Barry Conlon.

On the 6th April 2002, champions elect City virtually consigned The Reds to Second Division football with a 5-1 win at Maine Road in front of the SKY cameras. Macken again hit a brace and Darren Huckerby netted a hat-trick. Barnsley were relegated the following weekend after a 2-0 home defeat to Norwich

This Season's Pre-Season

Barnsley are having a fantastic pre-season having won all eight of their friendlies- 3-0 v Buxton, 3-2 v Ferencvaros, 5-1 v the Glenn Hoddle Academy, 3-0 v CD Alhaurino, 1-0 v Gainsborough Trinity, 3-1 v Frickley, 2-0 v Bradford and 2-0 v a Hull City XI. This match though against a City side now boasting talents such as Gareth Barry, Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure will be easily the toughest test yet. The last time Barnsley went through an entire pre-season with a 100% record they went on to win promotion to the Premier League that season.

Manchester City have played just three friendlies so far, all in South Africa. City took part in the Vodacom Challenge where they were beaten 2-0 by the Orlando Pirates, defeated Kaiser Chiefs 1-0 and then lost 1-0 to the Chiefs in the Final.

After Saturday's game at Oakwell, they will face both of the Old Firm- Rangers at Ibrox on the 5th August and Celtic at home on the 8th August when the Football League gets underway.

Bizarrely they also have a friendly once the Premier League season kicks off! City kick off what promises to be an entertaining season against Blackburn Rovers on the 15th August, before travelling to Spain to face European Champions Barcelona in the Nou Camp in a friendly on the following Wednesday. This game has been arranged as City were due to face Everton in the league that night but the Toffees have had to postpone it due to European commitments.
