Preston North End 1-0 Barnsley: Post Match Reaction

"I think we deserved something out of the game and were by far the better side in the second half. We were not helped by the referee at all - I think he got the sending off right but that was about the only thing he did.

"I am so proud of my players and I thought we really took the game to Preston. We had our game plan sorted out at half time and try to keep it tight until the last 15 and just go for it. We deserved at least a draw from the game.

"I have just spoken to my Chairman and he told me that Vito (Mannone) reached the ball first and it has just hit the lad in the face. He did not know much about it.

"At the other end Carlo (Nash) has made a great save which I do not think he knew anything about. It has just hit his foot as he has been diving the other way and cannoned over.

"We will have no problems if we play like that. We showed a lot of determination to succeed but still caused them a hell of a lot of problems.

"It nearly came off for us. We could have really gone for them right after the sending off but that would not be prudent for us. I thought Paul Hayes worked his proverbials off out there and it was a difficult decision to take Marc Richards off although we felt that Paul's pace could offer us a little more down the channels. We tried to get Paul in down the channels a lot.

"Everybody out there worked tremendously hard and we nearly got it right.

"Vito will play against Luton now because Nick Colgan will be suspended. I a sure he will take his chance with open arms. We have a bit of time to regroup now and I am sure we will be back at Oakwell and looking to beat Luton Town.

"Vito did ok. His kicking was good, he showed a lot of composure and the goal was just unfortunately. He is a confident lad and a competent goalkeeper as well.

"Paul Reid is still a little sore and we will just see how he will be for next weekend.

"I think the referee got the sending off right. Nick had no problems with it and told me that he caught it with his hand. It was the reactions of a goalkeeper and it was a sending off that you can stomach I guess because they did not get a goal from it".
