Put The Champagne On Ice, It Could Be Wembley Thrice!

Barnsley will be heading to the national stadium for the third time in the space of 17 months if they can beat Championship rivals Derby County in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

The Reds home clash with the Rams is the final second round fixture to be played due to Gary Rowett’s side only playing their re-arranged first round match with Grimsby this week, which they won 1-0.

And now if The Reds can make it into the third round for the first time since 2009 they will face Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur… at Wembley where the North London side are playing their home games this season whilst a new White Hart Lane is built.

Whilst The Reds have won only once at White Hart Lane in their history (and lost 13) they have won both of their last two trips to the national stadium, in the 2016 Johnstones Paint Trophy and League One Play-Off finals.

First though they must defeat a Derby County team who they have beaten only once in the past seven meetings- although that was the last Oakwell meeting. The Rams have only failed to make the third round of the League Cup once in the past four seasons.

Meanwhile it now finally looks like Huddersfield Town’s move for Andy Yiadom has ended after the Premier League new boys signed full back Florent Hadergjonaj on a season long loan from Ingolstadt.
