Barnsley will face a non-league side in the FA Cup for the first time in 20 years after being drawn to face Conference side Chester FC in the second round.

Chester were only reformed in May 2010 after their previous club went out of business two months previously.

The new Chester have reached the second round for the first time after dispensing of Stockport and Southend and they will travel to Oakwell on the weekend of the 5th, 6th, 7th December.

It has been some rise from the ashes for the Cheshire club who were relegated from League Two when they folded but were forced to start in the Evo-Stick Division One North (the eighth tier of English football) when they re-formed in time for the 2010-2011 campaign.

They won the division that season, and then won the Evo-Stick Premier the following season and the Conference North the season after that.

The Conference Premier seemed a step too far last season as they finished in the relegation zone but they were offered a reprieve when Hereford who had finished above Chester only on goal difference were expelled for financial reasons.

Chester have started moderately in 2014-2015 and sit in 14th place with seven wins and nine defeats from their opening 18 league games. They have won three of their last four matches in all competitions, two of which have been in the FA Cup.

Barnsley faced the previous Chester 29 times, although the last occasion was back in 1981.

They have also had two previous FA Cup Second Round meetings with Chester and lost both of them, 5-2 at Oakwell in 1965 and 1-0 at Sealand Road in 1979.

Barnsley’s last meeting with a non league side came back in January 1994 when late goals from Andy Rammell and Owen Archdeacon saw them come from behind to win 2-1 at Bromsgrove Rovers who were then in the Conference.
