Barnsley have been handed a home tie in the first round of the League Cup for the second year in a row as they will face League Two Morecambe at Oakwell in the week commencing the 8th August 2011.

It is the first time the two sides have ever met in competitive action, but there are links between the Reds and Jim Bentley’s Shrimps. New Reds boss Keith Hill and midfielder David Perkins have both played for the seaside club. Hill finished his career at Christie Park, making 20 appearances in the 2002-2003 season whilst Perkins started his career there, and made 176 appearances in seven years between 2000 and 2007.

The fixtures for the 2011-2012 Premier and Football League season are announced tomorrow at 10am.
