Barnsley have tonight made their THIRD signing of the day by securing midfielder David Davis on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 23 year old has signed on at Oakwell until the New Year to join Ross Turnbull and Sam Winnall in arriving at Barnsley today.

Davis started his career with the Molineux outfit- like Winnall- and has made 61 appearances for the club since 2009.

It took the Smethwick born man until 2011 to make his debut for Wolves, following spells out on loan at Darlington, Walsall and Shrewsbury, making a total of 38 appearances before he had even made his debut for his parent side.

Davis made his Wolves bow in a 4-0 Carling Cup victory over Northampton but then immediately left for a five-month stint at Inverness and a two-month spell at Chesterfield before finally making his Premier League debut for Wolves in a 2-0 defeat to Blackburn in March 2012.

He made a further six appearances in the top flight, but could not stop Wolves relegation.

2012-2013 was the year Davis finally made his breakthrough at Wolves, making 32 appearances, but again the club were relegated, dropping into the third tier of English football for the first time in 24 years and his season was ended at the start of April due to an ankle injury, with the club losing five of the remaining six matches without him.

Davis made 21 appearances for Wolves last season as they romped to the League One title with 103 points although his last game was a 3-0 win at Brenford in February.

Davis was pulled out of Wolves’ friendly with Telford last night so he could continue talks with Danny Wilson and Ben Mansford, whilst Wolves manager Kenny Jackett said:

“There is and has been some interest in him, Barnsley are the strong contenders after expressing an interest in Dave and they’ve been talking to Kevin Thelwell.”

Those talks have now come to fruition and David Davis becomes Barnsley’s seventh summer signing following Adam Davies, Kane Hemmings, Connor Hourihane, James Bailey, Ross Turnbull and Sam Winnall.
