Reds Go Rooting For Southend...Again

Last updated : 07 January 2008 By Rob Miles (barnsley Boy)

Barnsley will play Southend United in the FA Cup for the second season in a row after being paired with the League One side in today's Fourth Round draw.

The two sides met at the Third Round stage last year when a last gasp Michael Coulson goal earned a 1-1 draw at Roots Hall, before Southend comfortably won the replay 2-0 at Oakwell.

Barnsley had their revenge in the league however as they beat the Shrimpers, who they were promoted with in 2005-2006, 2-0 at Oakwell and a 3-1 in a fantastic display at Roots Hall. That latter result effectively kept Barnsley up and sent Southend straight back down.

The Reds have a pretty decent recent record at Southend and are unbeaten their in the last five visits.

Reds boss Simon Davey told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:

"Obviously we would have preferred a Premier League team at home but we have ended up with a League One side away.

"We have been there before and done well and we lined up against them four times last season. As a Championship side you have to look at it as a tie we can go and win and a opportunity to get through to the Fifth Round.

"We will prepare right for the game and hopefully got there and win the tie".
