The Reds have made their first signing of the January transfer window, bringing in Scunthorpe United striker Chris Dagnall for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old striker has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Reds and is reunited with Keith Hill and David Flitcroft, who had the striker at former club Rochdale.

While with Dale, Dagnall netted 60 goals in 155 appearances but while his time at Scunthorpe has been less fruitful, Hill is sure he will be a good acquisition for the club:

"Chris is a very good player and I'm sure he will endear himself to the Barnsley supporters because he is a workaholic," said Hill.

"He's a no-risk signing as myself and the management team know him very, very well from our time at Rochdale.

"He's definitely value-for-money and he's the type of player that fits in perfectly to what we're trying to achieve at this football club."

Dagnall himself also spoke to the official website:

"I'm made up to sign and made up to join Hill and Flickers," said Dagnall.

"The time at Rochdale was probably the best of my career under Hill and Flickers and this is an opportunity I just couldn't turn down.

"Keith said to me he wants me to work as hard as I can and I'm here to do that.

"The lads are scoring goals here so I'm going to bring competition for places in the team.

"I've never really set targets throughout the season I just believe what will happen, will happen - we'll have to wait and see."

Meanwhile, the Reds have tied up a deal to keep Danny Drinkwater at the club until the end of the season. The 21-year-old Manchester United loanee had a fine first half of the campaign, making 16 appearances.

Also, Nathan Doyle has joined Danny Haynes on the transfer list. Doyle spent two months on loan with Preston North End and has been told he can leave the club permanently.
