Reds March Into Quarters!

Barnsley booked their place in the quarter finals of the FA Cup for the second time in five years after a thoroughly professional 3-1 win at Milton Keynes Dons.

Two goals from Chris Dagnall either side of a Marlon Harewood strike gave the Reds the win their first half performance merited.

It took just over two minutes for the Reds to establish their lead, Jacob Mellis hooked a high ball over to Dagnall, who took the ball down well and fired a crisp finish across David Martin.

Quarter of an hour later and the Reds doubled their lead. Scott Wiseman did brilliantly to get down the right hand side and to the byline, before cutting back to Marlon Harewood, who stroked home his third of the season.

The game was dealt a serious delay early in the second half after a clash of heads between MK's Adam Chicksen and Kelvin Etuhu, which saw the Reds midfielder stretchered off after lengthy treatment.

This knocked the wind out of Barnsley's sails and their League One opponents got themselves a lifeline. Dean Bowditch stormed past Tom Kennedy and coolly slotted past Luke Steele.

The Dons were resurgent and it took a fantastic, instinctive save from Steele from an Alan Smith header to keep the Reds in front, as their goal was bombarded with the Dons in the ascendancy.

12 minutes of added time were indicated for Etuhu's injury, and the Reds sealed their place in the last eight two minutes into stoppage time. David Perkins slid the ball through to Dagnall, who shaped to go across Martin, but instead rounded the Dons keeper and found the net for his eighth of the season, and third in the FA Cup.

Ex-Leeds and Manchester United midfielder Smith then saw red for the MK Dons for a brainless elbow into Rory Delap's ribs, which compounded a miserable afternoon for Karl Robinson's men.

The Reds march on in the competition however, and join Blackburn and Millwall as the sides already through. Barnsley will be ball number 2 in tomorrow evening's draw, which will be overseen by Simon Davey, the last manager to guide the Reds this far in the famous competition.
