Reds On Course For Double Award Again!

Barnsley could secure the League One Manager AND Player of the Month awards for the SECOND month in a row after Paul Heckingbottom and Alfie Mawson were nominated.

Lee Johnson won the January gong after The Reds won all five matches that month (and then promptly left for Bristol City) whilst striker Sam Winnall took the player award after scoring seven goals in those five games.

Heckingbottom has been nominated for February after continuing Barnsley’s excellent form since replacing Johnson in a caretaker capacity winning three of the five matches last month and losing just once. If Heckingbottom sees off his rivals for the award- Wigan’s Gary Caldwell, Oldham’s John Sheridan and Swindon’s Luke Williams it will mean Barnsley have won the manager of the month award two months running for the first time since Norman Hunter claimed it in November and December 1980 (plus April 1981) on the way to leading them to promotion to the second tier.

Mawson is competing with Swindon’s Nicky Ajose, Millwall’s Jordan Archer and Bradford’s James Hanson for the player award. The 22 year old was part of a Reds defence that kept three clean sheets in February and also scored the winner in a 2-1 success at Crewe.
