Barnsley may move to take Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster on loan if they cannot agree a deal to bring Luke Steele back to the club in the next 24 hours.

Steele has returned to West Bromwich Albion after Barnsley refused to pay all his £8,000 a week wages to keep him for the rest of the season.

This has left just youngster Kyle Letheren (with just an FA Cup sub apperance to his name) as the only option with Heinz Muller crocked for the forseeable future.

This may lead to a move for Foster, who has 1 cap for England. The 24 year old has just returned for a two year loan at Watford and a cruciate knee ligament injury as his behind both Edwin Van Der Sar and Tomasz Kuszczak in the Old Trafford pecking order despite playing in the 1-0 win at Derby at the weekend. It is beleived Sir Alex Ferguson is willing to let Foster to go out on loan to regain his match fitness and Coventry are also rumored to be interested.

If The Reds miss out on Steele and Foster they could go back in for Aston Villa's Thomas Sorensen who they orginally enquired for before the FA Cup Fifth Round tie at Liverpool. That fell through when Sorensen wasnted the club to pay his full £26,000 a week wages.
