Barnsley boss Simon Davey has finally moved to appease disgruntled Reds fans by strengthening the one position that has been desperately in need of reinforcements since the beginning of the season- defence.
Davey has swooped on Championship leaders Derby County to sign Welsh international Lewin Nyatanga on loan for 3 months.
Nyatanga,18, has made 30 starts for Derby including 6 this season and scored 1 goal against Stoke back in November 2005.
Nyatanga who will wear the number 5 shirt at Oakwell, has also spent time on loan at Sunderland this season where he made 10 appearances and ironically made his Mackems debut against The Reds in the 2-0 defeat at the Stadium of Light in October.
Lewin is also a fully fledged Wales international and has accumulated 9 caps and made 7 starts.
He played the full 90 minutes in the recent 0-0 draw with Northern Ireland where he played against Reds midfielder Grant McCann.
His loan comes to an end on the final day of the season when The Reds travel to face West Brom. Hopefully he will have helped The Reds secure Championship status by that point.
Nyatanga joins Manchester United's Ritchie Jones in being in line to make his Barnsley bow at Southampton on Saturday.
