Barnsley have secured the signing of Bury's influential midfielder Dwayne Mattis at the third time of asking.

The third bid of £50,000 plus £25,000 should the Reds stay up and an extra 25% in an add-on fee. Reds boss Simon Davey had twice try to sign the former Huddersfield man and has prevailed the third time. Mattis becomes Davey's fourth window signing after only 10 days.

There is no confirmation of the signing on the Official Website just yet, but this statement was put forward from Bury's Official Site:

Bury FC Can confirm that Dwayne Mattis has today signed for Barnsley FC.

Club director Ian Harrop confirmed to www.buryfc.co.uk that the club had offered the player an extension to his current contract, a contract which ran out at the end of this season.

The player would not commit himself to the club so we had no alternative but to secure the best deal for the player and the club as he would have left at the end of the season for nothing.

A fee of £50,000 has been secured, plus £25,000 when Barnsley secure their championship status, also a 20% sell on clause has also been negotiated.

Dwayne Mattis joined the Shakers in June 2004 on a free transfer from Huddersfield Town. During his stay at Gigg Lane, Dwayne played 109 games in all competitions and scored 17 goals.

Is this a way forward? We shall soon see.
